Before the installation, you need to ask me for a floppy disk, with the floppy disk in drive A, reboot your computer. Then key in the command:fdisk /mbr After this step, you can do the installation WINDOWS 2000(Professional) SETUP (DOS ENVIRONMENT) 1. Insert Windows 2000 CD into the computer and turn on machine a) Choose C : Win2000 Advanced Server b) Setup Checks Hardware c) Setup Loads Critical Files 2. "Welcome To Setup" screen a) Press 'Enter' to setup now 3. "Windows NT Licensing Agreement" screen a) Press 'Page Down' to scroll to the bottom b) Press 'F8' to agree to the License & to continue 4. "Existing Partition" screen a) Delete any existing partition by press "D", Enter, and "L"(if you have any) b) Press 'c' to create new partitions on the "Unpartitioned Space" 5. "Create Partition" screen a) Accept the default size of the partition and then press "Enter" to create. 6. After the partition, we go back to "Existing Partition" screen a) The partitions you created should be listed b) Choose "C:" drive, which is the partition we created, and press "Enter" to Install. 7. "Harddisk format" screen a) Two choices ('FAT' or 'NTFS') b) Select 'NTFS' (the 2nd one) & Press 'Enter' to continue with setup 8. Setup formats the Partitioned Drive (This will take couple of minutes). 9. "Choose directory to install Windows NT" screen a) Default reads '\WINNT' b) Press 'Enter' to accept default and move to the next step 10. "Examination of Hard Disks for corruption" screen a) Two choices ('Perform an exhaustive examination' or 'Skip exhaustive examination') b) Press 'Esc' to skip the test 11. Setup starts to copy files onto Hard Drive (This will take couple of minutes). 12. "This part of Setup is complete" screen a) Remove all media from drives(CD-ROMs, Floppies) b) Press 'Enter' to reboot machine 17. Machine continues to boot and then reboot again WINDOWS NT SETUP (WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT) 1. Windows NT Setup loads and begins to copy files from the CD a) A prompt to insert the CD appears b) Insert "Windows 2000 Server" CD-Rom and click 'Ok' 2. "Installing Devices" screen a) Click 'Next' to continue setup 3. "Regional Setting" screen a) Click 'Next' to accept the default choice 4. "Name and Organization" screen a) Enter your 'Name' as "Group1 or Group2 etc" b) Enter your 'Organization' as "Cis230" c) Click 'Next' to continue setup 5. "Registration" screen a) Enter the Product ID# b) Click 'Next' to continue setup 6. "Computer Name" screen a) This will be the Network Name of your computer, it is on the label b) Click 'Next' to continue setup 7. "Administrator Account" screen a) Enter an Administrator Account password b) DO NOT FORGET c) Click 'Next' to continue setup 8. "Date & Time Setting" screen a) Choose "Easten Time(US & Canada)" from the drop down list b) Click "Close" to procede. 9. "Network Setting" screen a) Click 'Next' to accept the typical installation 10. "Workgroup or Computer Domain" screen a) Select 'No' and Click 'Next' to continue setup b) Enter Computer Name c) Set 'Workgroup' = cis230 d) Click 'Next' to continue setup 11. "Install components" screen a) It takes some time to install components 12. "Performing final tasks" screen a) Click 'Next' to continue setup 13. "Completing the win2000 Setup Wizard" screen a) Click 'finish' to restart 14. "Network Identification Wizard" screen a) Click 'Next' to continue setup 15. "Users of this computers" screen a) Select "Administrator" and Click 'Next' to complete 16. When the computer brings up, a) Go to: Start -> Setting -> Controll Panel -> Network & Dialup -> local area connection -> Properties -> TCP/IP b) Enter the IP address assigned to the machine c) Enter Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.192 d) Enter Gateway: 129.32.93.65 e) Enter DNS: - 155.247.166.2 - 155.247.19.2(Secondary) Service Pack 4 Installation: 1. Click Start->Windows Update 2. Find Service Pack 4 and Install 3. Restart Windows 2000. It makes your windows more secure.
